Turks Head Cactus

A national symbol here, the Turks Head Cactus (Melocactus intortus) is found on dry islands from Antigua through the Bahamas. Tiny red flowers can develop on the the spiny “cap” all year long and the bright pink conical fruits that follow are eagerly picked off by birds and small children.
