The ubiquitous Sea Purslane (Sesuvium portulacastrum) is found creeping over almost every shore in the Turks and Caicos Islands, whether sandy beach, salt flat or rocky shoreline. Often bathed in salt water spray, it thrives. Its dense rhizome mat holds beaches together. The thick, fleshy leaves may be green or red and are entirely edible, having a salty, refreshing taste.
