JOB TITLE:CHIEF CONSERVATION OFFICER
REPORTS TO:Director, Department of Environment & Coastal Resources
MAIN PURPOSE:
Overall responsibility for enforcement of environmental laws including Fisheries Protection Regulations, National Parks Regulations, Coast Protection, etc. Maintenance of the Department’s equipment and tools and the supervision of Conservation Officers
MAIN DUTIES
Manage and supervise the implementation of fisheries management activities
Coordinate the revision and update of Fisheries Management Plans
Supervise the fisheries scientific monitoring programme
Participate in Joint Enforcement Meetings
Coordinate quarterly work programmes of the Fisheries Division of the DECR
Assist in the review of legislation to incorporate changes brought about by the new institutional arrangement for the Protected Areas System
Provide input into all legislation relevant to the DECR both local and international
In collaboration with the Director, provide input and advice on development proposals, EIS, and other planning applications as the need arise

Promote, develop and monitor co-management arrangements
Head Scientific Authority for Implementation of CITES
Assist the Scientific Management Authority in monitoring and enforcing the CITES Requirements
Enforcement of fisheries protection, protected area and other relevant environmental regulations
In collaboration with the Chief Conservation Officer prepare and implement surveillance and enforcement plans and work programmes for Conservation Officers to ensure effective monitoring of resources
Supervise and Manage the Licencing and Revenue Systems in the DECR
Ensure Licence Registers are up to date and Revenue Control Record Reconciled
Coordinate all inshore Search and Rescue Operations
Monitoring of mineral extraction
Produce monthly reports and supervise the work of the Conservation Officers
Any other duties that may be assigned by the Director
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The applicant must have a Master’s degree in the field of Natural resources Management, Ecology or a Degree in Natural Resource Law Enforcement or some other related in environmental law and three years relevant experience.
In addition to said education qualification this positions requires;

SALARY : T28 – T33 ($31680 – $35,880 per annum)
