National Trust / DECR Conducts Teacher Training Workshop
On Thursday 18 and Friday 19 June, 2009 The Turks and Caicos National Trust along with the DECR conducted a Teacher Training Workshop in the National Environment Centre. The teachers comprised mainly of primary school teachers. The presenters included Bob McMeekin, Pine Recovery Officer; Miranda Jones, GIS Officer; Jonathan Sayao, Education Officer of the National Trust and Marlon Hibbert, Scientific Monitoring Officer; Eric Salamanca, Scientific Officer; and Darshan Narang, Parks Manager of the DECR.

The topics covered included:
  • Pine Recovery Project: Background and Current Work
  • Use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the Pine Recovery Project
  • Use of Endemic Plants in Landscaping
  • The Millenium Seed Bank Project and Seed Collecting in the Turks and Caicos Islands
  • Conservation of the Turks and Caicos Rock Iguana
  • Conservation in the TCI and Further Afield
  • The Invasive Lionfish
  • The Protected Area System in TCI
  • Mangrove Ecosystems In TCI
  • Introduced Species and Biodiversity of TCI
  • Field Trip to look at Endemic and Invasive Plants in the Botanical Gardens and Surrounding Area
