As a follow-up to the Consultative Meeting held on May 1, 2009, representatives of the Department of Environment and Coastal Resources (DECR), Environmental Health Department (EHD), Port Authority (PA) and Dept. of Customs (DC) met on Friday, May 8 2009 at the DECR Conference Room, to discuss strategies on how to effectively implement e measures to mitigate the entry of Alien Invasive Species (AIS) into the Territory. The DC and PA had pledged to cooperate with EHD and DECR to solve the problems on AIS. The DECR and EHD, in consultation with other stakeholders such as the TC National Trust, are preparing the list of AIS that will be banned entry to the TCI. List of alternative plant species to replace the AIS are carefully being prepared to ensure that the island will be landscaped with species that will not pose danger to other plants. |
